The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking profiles, no selling data. Your location is used in the moment to find you a nearby adventure, then forgotten by our servers. Your saved quests and feedback live on your own device.
What we use, and why
- Your location (with your permission). When you ask for a quest, your approximate coordinates are sent to our recommendation service to generate suggestions near you, and to open-data geocoding services to verify the place is real. Coordinates are processed transiently to answer that one request — we don't store a history of where you've been.
- Your quest activity — stored on your device only. Saved quests, thumbs-up/down feedback, skips, and recently shown quests are kept in your browser's local storage or your phone's on-device storage so the app can avoid repeats and learn your taste. They never leave your device except as part of generating your next suggestion (e.g. "already shown: X").
- Shared quest links. If you share a quest, its details (the place, not your location) are stored under a short link for 90 days, then deleted.
Services we rely on
- Anthropic Claude (via our own server proxy) — generates quest suggestions from your approximate location. Our API traffic is not used to train models.
- Photon / OpenStreetMap & CARTO — open geocoding and map tiles used to verify places and draw maps.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and our proxy; standard server logs (IP, request time) are used for rate-limiting and abuse prevention.
- Google Analytics (website only) — basic, aggregate usage stats on 5idequest.com. The iOS app contains no analytics SDKs.
What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-ups, or personal profiles.
- No advertising, ad SDKs, or data brokers.
- No selling or sharing your data for marketing. Ever.
- No tracking you across other apps or websites.
Your choices
Location permission is optional and revocable anytime in your browser or in iOS Settings → Privacy — the app just can't find nearby quests without it. Clearing your browser storage or deleting the app removes all locally stored quest history.
Children
5ideQuest is a general-audience service and isn't directed at children under 13.
